Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you should know

The procedure isn’t painful because only a minimal preparation is done on each tooth.

Yes, veneers can fracture if excessive force is applied to the front teeth. For example, this can happen when patients use their teeth to open bags, bite directly into apples or pears, or break hard foods like bananas, chicken bones, or pork rinds. To prevent overloading your front teeth, it’s always best to use a knife and fork when eating. Another common factor that can cause fractures is bruxism, especially if the patient doesn’t wear a night guard every night.

The time needed to complete the treatment depends on each patient’s specific characteristics and needs. In some cases, periodontal surgery may be necessary before placing the veneers, which would require additional healing time. If the treatment consists solely of placing direct composite resin veneers, the estimated time is approximately 10 to 15 days.

No, the reduction is minimal and only performed on the superficial layer of the enamel, maintaining the tooth’s functionality.

Step by step procedure

Step 1

Assessment Appointment

Dr. Lina Marcela Osorio and her team conduct an assessment consultation where they analyze a panoramic X-ray, listen to the patient’s expectations, evaluate their specific needs, and take impressions of both upper and lower teeth. With this information, a comprehensive smile design plan is developed. Finally, both intraoral and extraoral photographic records of the case are taken.

Step 2

Veneer Appointment

During this consultation, we present the patient with the design of their new smile, based on the model of their teeth obtained at the previous appointment. We use a mock-up to show them what the final result will look like. Additionally, we perform any necessary tooth preparations and apply the composite resin directly to the teeth, shaping and texturing it appropriately.

Step 3

Finishing, Polishing, and Shine Appointment

This consultation should take place after the veneers have been placed, as protocols indicate that maintaining the color of the restoration is more effective when the finishing, polishing, and shine are performed in a separate appointment. It’s not recommended to do it in the same session. Additionally, impressions of the upper teeth are taken for the fabrication of a protective night guard in the lab, which will be delivered at the subsequent appointment.

Step 4

Final Follow-Up Appointment

Delivery of the protective night guard for your smile design.

Step 5

Check-ups and Maintenance

A maintenance appointment is scheduled at 6 months to perform finishing, polishing, and shining of the restorations, as they can gradually lose their original luster over time.
